NICU

The afternoon of February 26 we had visitors. Grandpa Turnbow, Melissa, Josh and BreeAnne.  We didn't get any pictures because half way through the visit Harper coughed something up and then started choking on it. She couldn't clear it out of her airway and started turning blue. BreeAnne tried hitting her back, but we finally got the nurse and they rushed her off to the nursery. Brooks and Grandpa Turnbow went with them. After a while they came back and said they had cleared out a lot of stuff from her lungs and are monitoring her oxygen. Since delivery was so fast a lot of stuff had been left in her lungs.

She came back to my room for the evening, but I wanted them to watch her during the night. They monitored her oxygen while in the nursery and she kept struggling to keep her oxygen levels up. Finally by morning they brought her to my room to let me know that were admitting her to the NICU. She needed oxygen and a little more attention. At that point the pediatrician thought it may have something to do with Group B strep virus or another bacteria, so they did a bunch of other blood work tests which all came back negative.

Harper spent the next 4 days in the NICU. She had to be off oxygen for 48 hours before coming home. They would take the oxygen off or turn it down, but if her levels dropped they would boost it back up. By Sunday afternoon she was completely off oxygen.

The other kids were with Grandma Turnbow and luckily Melissa and her family were down for the weekend! Thank goodness for a few extra hands because Grandma was busy taking Spencer to the doctor and caring for him with his sickness!
